Riah, are you still up for showing me how to be using the forge?

[She's got a pile of metal she's been sitting on, and she figures it's time to do something the fuck about that.]

Huh?

[Damn no one's called him that in a while. It takes him off guard for a moment.]

Oh, yeah sure just give me second. I'll be there in a moment.

[There's some rattling around as he finishes up what he's doing.]

Thanks. And take your time, I've got nothing much else to do.

[She's already at the forge, a decent amount of metal in a pile by her feet.

She's planning on trading him some of it for the instruction, of course, but that's not something she wants to be talking about over the fucking journals.]

[Zachariah arrives about ten minutes later, poking his head in through the door.]

Ryn?

[He spies her, and then the pile of metal sitting at her feet. It quickly draws his attention and he wonders where she got it all.]

[She's fiddling with some of the forge equipment when he arrives, but looks up when she hears her name.]

Hey, Riah.

[And is unsurprised at where his attention goes, though it makes her grin a bit.]

That'd be why I thought I should learn how to use this damn thing. Figured I'd trade you some of it, for showing me how?

[When she says his name his attention goes back to her and he smiles.]

Haven't seen you for a while. Sorry about that.

[The moment she mentions trading metal for lessons his smile gets even wider. He likes both these things.]

Sure I can do that! I learned a thing or two about this place.

[And by that he means he nearly knows it inside and out by now. He immediately gets too it, all too eager to show her everything he's learned.]

[It surprise her a moment, that he's actually apologizing for not seeing her. She's pretty sure this might be the first time in a very, very long time that someone's actually been sorry for not seeing her.]

Nothing you need to be apologizing for. I've been somewhat scarce myself.

[But she's smiling even more because of it, and because of his own smile. She's missed talking to him, she realizes, as she leans in eagerly to watch what he has to show.]

How've you been?

Still, I should have tried harder to keep in touch.

[His smile gets wider as he shows her more. This is something he's starting to learn about himself these days. Just as much as he loves to do the things he's good at, he loves to teach them as well.]

Pretty good actually. Things have been kind of busy but I like it like that.

So should I.

[It's softly said, because again it surprises her a little that she means it.

It's been a long fucking time since anyone taught her how to do something, not since she learned mechanics from her father and Vince. It softens her somewhat as she falls back into learning, eager for the knowledge of something practical to do here.]

Yeah? What've you been finding to do, then?

[He just continues to give her a smile while he goes over more about the forge.]

Helping build a house right now. Got tired of sleeping in the stables.

[Finally he finishes going over everything and steps away to let her have a turn at it. Of course he hovers nearby just in case she needs help with something.]

You're building a house? Now why the hell wasn't I thinking of that?

[It sounds like a much better idea than hanging out in the fucking barracks.

When he steps aside, she moves in to start working at it, doing her best to remember everything he'd shown her. She does a reasonably good job, though she's not at all shy about asking for help when she needs it.]

It was Abeni's idea really. I'm just helping.

[Zachariah doesn't hesitate to jump in and help her when she asks for it, or to give her some pointers every once and a while. Though he's pretty impressed with how well she's taking to it.]

Abeni? She's the one from your world, right?

[She's almost forgotten how much she likes learning, particularly things like this. Her eagerness is probably obvious, as is the fact that she's not been cranky once since they started.]

Yeah, we've been together for a while.

[In more ways than one at this point.

Zachariah doesn't notice the lack of crankiness because, well, she's never actually been all that cranky around him.]

[She smiles at that, automatically assuming he means it in a dating sense.]

Good thing she showed up here, then. Were you together before?

[It's hard to be cranky around Riah, really.]

Before this place? Uh...

[His smile dips a bit. Nothing quite kills his good mood than thinking about Deadworld, or what happened to Abeni there.]

We were partners. We watched each others back and kept each other alive.

[He'll just keep things vague for the moment.]
